Quito — Travel Essay

Quito is one of the most unique capitals in South America. The historic center is one of the largest preserved colonial districts on the continent, surrounded by dramatic volcanic landscapes and steep Andean hills.

At the same time, travel experiences are always shaped by the moment in which you visit a place. During our stay, the strong military presence reminded us that every destination has its own current reality beyond the travel guides.

Even with that atmosphere, Quito remains a fascinating gateway into the Ecuadorian Andes and an important first stop before exploring the mountains and volcanoes of the country.
